New members elected to Sports Hall of Fame Board of Governors

Published:  Friday, October 23, 2009

Two new members were recently elected to the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame board of governors. They are Albert Legacé of Notre-Dame-des-Èrables, and Carl White of Saint John.

Legacé replaces North Shore representative Serge Robichaud of Paquetville. Legacé, a retired provincial civil servant, has been involved with organized sport in some capacity for more than 30 years. He is currently the chairman of Hockey New Brunswick’s Senior Council.

White was ministerially appointed and replaces Saint John representative Gord Thorne. White has an extensive background in organized sport, and most recently served as chairman of the Sports Hall of Fame Induction Event Committee for the 40th annual induction banquet, which was held in Saint John on June 6.

Other election results included the re-election of former chair John Estabrooks of Moncton, and vice-chair Roland Beaulieu of Grand Falls. The remaining board members are John Clendenning of Fredericton, Nancy McKay of Bathurst, Lorne Mitton of Moncton, and Grant Sinclair of Fredericton.

“I am very encouraged by the recent elections, as well as tremendously appreciative of the contributions made by our retiring members,” said Jamie Wolverton, executive director of the Sports Hall of Fame.

The New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization that was established in 1970 to recognize and honour outstanding New Brunswick athletes, teams and sport builders, and to preserve and celebrate New Brunswick’s rich sports heritage. It is located at 503 Queen St., Fredericton.
