Some significant events & milestones in New Brunswick sports history:

  • 1908 Mabel Thomson wins her fourth consecutive national golf championship, establishing a record that still stands.
     
  • 1910 Ethel Babbitt wins the Canadian singles and mixed doubles tennis championship, and becomes the first New Brunswick athlete to win a national tennis title.
     
  • 1912 the Moncton Victorias challenge for the Stanley Cup, the only New Brunswick team ever to play for hockey's coveted silver ware.
     
  • 1913 John McLean becomes the first New Brunswick-born player to appear in baseball's World Series with New York of the National League.
     
  • 1920 Fred McLean joins the Quebec Bulldogs, and becomes the first New Brunswick player to make the National Hockey League.
     
  • 1922 Toronto St. Pats wins the Stanley Cup, and Bill "Red" Stuart of Sackville is the first New Brunswick-born player to have his name engraved on the Cup.
     
  • 1924 Charles Gorman becomes New Brunswick's first Olympian, when he competes in the speed skating events at the first Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France. He is the only Canadian to compete in speed skating.
     
  • 1924 Hilton Belyea, William Maynes and Andrew Miller become the first New Brunswick athletes to compete in the Summer Games when they attend the VIII Olympics in Paris.
     
  • 1926 Charles Gorman wins the World Speed Skating Championship held at Lily Lake near Saint John.
